The range has hosted and accommodated numerous important and historic aerial and weapons systems including the Trinity Site (the test of the first atom bomb) at the north end of the range, V-2 rocket testing (which played an important role in vehicle development for the U.S. armed forces and the space program), Honest John long range U.S. Army rocket, the Redstone ballistic missile and NASA Mercury booster and the Pepp Aeroshell among many others. The proposal is for pavilions to house, display and preserve fragile historic missiles, bombs and other items that were tested and/or developed at the range. The series of pavilions housing different artifacts are designed to be placed at intervals along the main roads in the range administrative area adjacent to the Organ Mountains east of Las Cruces and overlooking the Tularosa Basin.
